Internet Explorer 9 officially launched

Microsoft has officially released the finalised version internet browser software, Internet Explorer (IE). This marks the ninth iteration of the application and is the software giant’s attempt to compete against tough alternatives.

Internet Explorer 9 boasts faster loading speeds, a streamlined interface and enhanced security features. One of the biggest new features is the introduction of hardware-acceleration using the the computer’s graphics card. This paves the way for modern media, such as browser-based games, high definition audio and video streaming/playback and interactive website content.

One of Internet Explorer’s biggest competitors, Firefox – developed by Mozilla, is also planning to release a new version soon bringing their Firefox 4 browser to the battle.

Apple launching the iPad 2

We all knew it was coming as soon as the iPad was released, probably even before then. Then we all knew it definitely existed before needing any proper confirmation. However, we now have the official release to move us from 99.999% sure to 100% certain – the iPad 2 is real and out soon.

Here is a summary of what is new in the latest iteration of the popular tablet computer:

  • The screen size is still 9.7 inches, but the iPad 2 itself is thinner and lighter than it’s older brother.
  • Dual core – Basically this means it can do more, run more and handle more – all a lot more quickly.
  • The device now boasts HDMI out, so you can easily hook it up to your HD displays and equipment (also recharges the device).

The iPad 2 is due to launch in the UK on March 2, 2011.

Buying technology magazines

For the first time in my life I bought a technology magazine the other day. I decided I would have a look through to see what they were offering. It was from Web User and the title on the front of the magazine was 40 secret tools from Google.

Unfortunately, this title on the front page was the most exciting part about this magazine, it was so boring it was untrue, I nearly fell asleep whist reading it.

These so called Secret tools from Google were stupid! they were just listing all the services which Google offer, ie Maps, Local, Email, Search, just the really obvious stuff which we all already know about any way!

If you want up to date and relevant information, my advice would be to look online because technology magazines are useless and outdated.

Payment software for e-commerce websites

The majority of people have bought something online in their life time and if you haven’t you are missing out on a wealth of bargains and cheap quality goods.

When you are buying online you may use different payment portals depending on which website you are buying from.

For example, if you are buying something off eBay, their most popular payment system is Paypal because it is trusted and widely used.

Another payment system is SagePay, this is used by lots of serious e-commerce websites. If you have an e-commerce website i would recommend SagePay rather than PayPal because you can just automatically buy off SagePay rather than having to set up and account and verify it.

Advantages of online banking

I love online banking!!! I am an extreme advocate of online banking and its benefits, I seriously cannot understand paranoid people who still insist on walking into the bank to talk face to face with an bank employee.

I have listed the benefits of online banking below to persuade everyone to set up online banking.

  • You can view your accounts and how much money you have left this month without having to leave the comfort of your own warm living room.
  • You can set up direct debits and standing orders to pay bills and make single payments to companies or individuals.
  • You can request overdraft increases.
  • You can view all of your accounts in one central place.
  • You can transfer money between your accounts.

Using technology when giving wedding presents

I was recently chief bridesmaid for my best friend and she set up her wedding guest list with a company in Scotland. Unfortunately this company had a rubbish website and the wedding gift list was just that … a list. It was a list of product names and prices. There as no enhanced functionality to be able to view the images of the products, let a lone be able to zoom in and view any details of the products.

I was very disappointed because I had to buy her a present and I couldn’t even see what it was that I was purchasing and do you know what? I still haven’t even see the present yet because they have a small house so they have put all the wedding presents into storage and they will get them all back out when the move into their new house.

The invention of the laptop

I sit here and write this blog and I think back to my very first computer when I used to complete my homework on the large PC at my mum and dads house. It was a massive tower block which was very noisy. The PC was actually in my sisters room so when I had a deadline to complete an essay I had to stay in her room late and we used to have many arguments because she couldn’t sleep as the PC was making too much noise.

Since using my mum and dads computer back in the day, times have changed and I am now using an Apple Mac Laptop to write my blogs. Using this laptop is a lot more convenient and comfortable because I can actually sit with it on my knee. How times have changed! Do you have a laptop or a PC or even both?

The top five scanning apps for your iPhone

There are hundreds of thousands of apps now available for iPhones, covering everything from entertainment and social interaction to practical help (i.e. satellite navigation apps).

What you may not realise is that your iPhone is also a powerful business tool, possibly the most useful and efficient device you could possess as a business professional. There are now just as many apps designed for business purposes as there are silly games and social tools. Of these, scanning apps are arguably the most useful.

A scanning app effectively changes the purpose of your phone – it can instantly become an efficient desktop scanner, except that it still fits in your pocket. You can use it to scan, store and organise documents, business cards and everything in between.

Here’s a quick rundown of the top five scanning apps available for iPhones at the moment:

1. Adobe Acrobat.com Mobile – a multi-functional document scanner (and it’s free if you have Adobe Acrobat on your desktop computer!)

2. Scanner Pro – a popular app, Scanner Pro offers a range of features including password protection.

3. Document Scanner – a well-designed scanning app with many convenient features to improve the organisation of your documents.

4. Business Card Reader – specifically designed for business cards, helping you to keep track of who’s who in your contact list.

5. Perfect OCR – uses Optical Character Recognition allows you to search documents directly on your iPhone

Fun USB drives

I am always on the lookout for fun and interesting USB pen drives rather than the dull boring and plain black ones.
I am happy to report I came across some USB Metal Robot Flash Drives!
They are a combination of funkiness and extravagance! The files are stored in the robots tummy and it looks amazing at the same time.
The usb metal robots are made from a tough and shimmering alloy body with arms and legs that can be positioned like the old fashioned lego men, so they can be set in a range of positions! Not only a useful gadget, but one which will make you giggle as well!

Mobile Phones

As previously mentioned, I am always astonished at how quickly mobile phone technology changes and improves with every year. I am pleased to say that I am lucky enough to be able to keep up with the changes and regularly upgrade my phone when newer handsets become available.
Last year I opted for a touch screen phone for the first time, and I have to say it did take me quite some time to adjust to it! More recently I have upgraded to a blackberry which means I have had to re-adjust to a qwerty keyboard. There has been much debate as to which is best touch screen of not, and personally I prefer the qwerty keyboard for speed rather than anything else.
